Invisible Cities
Digital Collage, 2017
Clarice was once “emptied by plagues.”
In Eusapia, “the inhabitants have constructed an identical copy of their city, underground.”
“Suspended in the heavens, there exists another Beersheba.”
This group of work is about imagination and experimentation of social promotion. Based on inspirations that came from several quotes, I created compelling visual representation through digital photo manipulation. I chose three cities ― Clarice, Eusapia and Beersheba ― from Chapter 7 of the novel “Invisible Cities” written by Italian writer Italo Calvino.
I let my imagination elaborate on one characteristic of that specific city. My interpretation was that all three quotes were about life and death. In the sky above Clarice, there is the Satan’s eye. The red smoke in Eusapia came from the flames in hell. And in Beersheba, you walk into the mist.
